What is Compass Point Doing In South Africa?

Image

Our Purpose: To leverage the blessings that God has provided in North America by sharing those blessings with a sister church in a disadvantaged part of the world.

Our Plan: To maintain a complex and active partnership with a like-minded congregation in South Africa to whom Compass Point will Tithes ten percent of all received offerings on a monthly basis.

The Benefits:

Financial leverage - The currency exchange rate and buying power of the US Dollar in South Africa is effectively 7:1. The tithe sent to South Africa makes a dramatic impact on the local budget of a church in an impoverished area.

Local ministry is best understood and conducted by locals. By investing in a partnership with a local church, we know that real needs are being met by people with a personal investment in, and knowledge of the region.

Global Vision - Ongoing partnership, with frequent sharing of stories, pictures, video, etc. allows both churches to participate in the global work of the Kingdom, with many people never leaving home.

Evangelistic intensity - The opportunity to see pressing physical needs like poverty, famine, disease, and death cannot help but increase the passion for reaching those who are still far from God.

Stewardship - As a church that doesn’t talk about money on Sunday morning, this partnership models and demonstrates the Biblical principle of tithing, as we see what God can do with the resources that we faithfully return to Him.

At Compass Point, we believe that God calls His followers to demonstrate trust in Him by returning a tenth of their increase to Him for use in support of the spread of the good news.

Mission service - Both churches now have built in destinations for short term mission service, with a host church in place.

Cultural exchange - Opportunities exist for various ministry teams, leaders, pastors, etc. to serve with the partner church for varying periods of time. The chance to learn and to teach are manifold, as people see things from different perspectives in differing contexts.
